The first U-16 in Spanish AF service came from the USAF in 1954 and formed two SAR units, one covered the area around the Canaries and the other in the Ballearics. The type was finally retired from service in 1979 and replaced in the SAR role by C212 and P-3s. This example is on display at the Museo del Aire. This photo is copyright © Alastair T.
