V-tail glider built in 1955 by Entwicklungsgemeinschaft Haase-Kensche-Schmetz. Designers Ernst Günter Haase, Heinz Kensche and Fernando Schmetz had earlier built the record-breaking HKS-1 in July 1953. Kensche was an experienced mechanical engineer who worked for the Reichsluftfahrtministerium (RLM) and flight tested the Fieseler Fi-103 Reichenberg in World War II, establishing a sailplane record after the war. Haase was the Open Class World Champion in 1958 held at Leszno, Poland with this 257 kg HKS-3. This photo is copyright © Arjun Sarup, and may not be used or published in any way without permission.
