Painted to represent an aircraft of the "Golden Centennaries" team, this is actually the prototype Tutor, stored in a yard outside the NAFM building. The prototype differed from the production airframes, primarily by the use of a Pratt & Whitney JT12A engine instead of the Orenda-built J85 jet. It made its first flight on 13th January 1960 as a private venture. Previously pole-mounted at Portage La Prairie/Southport Airport, Manitoba. The other prototype, CL-41R CF-LTX-X, was modified as a CF-104 radar nose trainer but that role was given instead to three "Pinocchio" C-47s.
