Chukwani was a base for RNAS seaplanes during World War I. It is close to the site of the present day Zanzibar airport. Tanganyika was a German colony going into World War I and the UK deployed ships and aircraft to Zanzibar to counter the threat. In 1964 newly independent Tanganyika and Zanzibar merged to form Tanzania. Photo from: Library and Archives Canada This photo was added on 31 October 2022, and has since been viewed 447 times. |
