This was the first 747 freighter built. It was rolled out on 14 October 1971 and first flew on 30 November that year. It was delivered to Lufthansa on 9 March 1972 and entered service from Frankfurt to New York on 19 April 1972. Lufthansa sold the aircraft to Korean Airlines in 1978 as HL7441 and it went on to become the first 747 to reach 100,000 flying hours. It was retired on 31 May 2000 and flown to Marana, where it was scrapped in 2004. The first 747 freighters had a nose door only, which gave less flexibility than with the later side cargo door.
