This was the end of Flt Lt Roderick Carr's second attempt to fly a Horsley non-stop to India from the UK. The first in May 1927 ended in the Persian Gulf. Carr and the copilot - not the same man on both flights - survived the accidents. Only the engine from this Horsley was salvaged. Carr was a New Zealander.
