The seventh of eight DC-10s "Luigi Pirandello" was delivered to Alitalia on February 18, 1975. The airliner was sold to leasing company Polaris Aviation in 1985 and leased to Eastern Airlines as N392EA. Transferred to Continental Air Lines in 1990, it was re-registered N41068 in 1996. Returned to the lessor in 2000, a lease to Avensa fell through, but he aircraft was placed with Santa Barbara Airlines in 2002 registered YV-1040C, christened "Ciudad Puerto de la Cruz".
