Sherman Fairchild developed an interest in aerial photographic survey during World War I. He started Fairchild Aircraft to build an aircraft (the FC-2) to meet the needs of his survey business. Normally NC2K, NR2K was used by Fairchild's photogrammetry (low level, oblique images) business at Burbank. It became NR2K when it participated in air races. NC2K managed to appear in a couple of movies because of its proximity to Hollywood. The aircraft is still registered and is still based in California.
