The Empress of Mexico City departs with the number one thrust reverser locked closed. The Rolls Royce Conway ejectors, an assembly that contained the thrust reverser doors, served the dual purpose of reversing the engine thrust and noise suppression . They were usually extended below 10,000 feet and retracted above to streamline the nacelle aerodynamics.
