The Swedish Air Command ordered 55 Gloster Gladiators, which were designated J 8 and assigned to F 8 Barkarby that was defending Stockholm. When the Soviet Union attacked Finland in 1939, the Swedish volunteer flotilla F 19 was established with twelve J 8s and these were used in the Finnish Winter War with Finnish nationality markings. The Flygvapenmuseum's J 8 was flown back to Sweden after a few months in Finland and SOC in 1945 and so is one of the few Swedish aircraft that has seen combat. This photo is copyright © Alastair T.
