Ferdinand Schulz built his FS-3 in 1922. He took part in the Rhön 1922 meeting but the technical commission did not allow him to fly in the contest for lack of structural rigidity. However, two years later, on May 18, 1924, he set a new world endurance record of 8 hours and 42 minutes with it. Unbelievable that somebody could sit on such a small seat for such a long time, unprotected against the cold wind, and without having eaten anything! The aircraft shown here is a replica built in 1975 by Klaus Heyn. This photo is copyright © Peter Vercruijsse, and may not be used or published in any way without permission.
