Although a Fokker-built F-104G that served with Koninklijke Luchtmacht / Royal Netherlands Air Force as D-8244, this aircraft has been painted in memory of USAF Lt. Col. Norman Schmidt whose F-104C 57-0913 was shot down by heavy AAA fire over North Vietnam on 1st September 1966. Although injured Col. Schmidt was able to eject, but later died due to mistreatment in the notorious Hỏa Lò "Hanoi Hilton" prison camp.
