Although a Fokker-built F-104G that served with Koninklijke Luchtmacht / Royal Netherlands Air Force as D-8244, this aircraft has been painted in memory of USAF Lt. Col. Norman Schmidt whose F-104C 57-0913 was shot down by heavy AAA fire over North Vietnam on 1st September 1966. Although injured Col. Schmidt was able to eject, but later died due to mistreatment in the notorious Hỏa Lò "Hanoi Hilton" prison camp.

Former Netherlands Air Force D-8244 in fake markings. Delivered to the Netherlands Air Force as D-8244 in 1964. Used as a ground trainer at Schaarsbergen from 1983. Stored at Soesterberg by 2006. Moved to Everett, WA in 2010 then to Denison, TX in 2011 and the Palm Springs Air Museum in 2016. Painted as 70913.
