The first Botha seen here devoid of markings save for its serial. It would subsequently receive the standard dark green/dark earth camouflage and roundels. After its operational life it became a ground instruction aircraft with maintenance serial 2217M. The Botha saw little operational service and was quickly allocated to training roles. It suffered a high accident rate and was unpopular with air crew. Despite this, 580 were built. Most were scrapped in 1943.
