Blackburn was contracted to build two transports, one a biplane and one a monoplane, that would be otherwise identical. It was to test the relative merits of the configurations. The monoplane proved superior and G-ABKW was scrapped. It did provide spares for the monoplane, G-ABKV, which was sent to the Royal Aircraft Establishment for use in trials and experiments.
