The new airport at Cooma, built to support the Snowy Mountains Hydro Scheme, was one the few regional airports in the Butler network able to handle the Viscount. The aircraft's weight was more than runways and aprons laid for DC-3s could handle. VH-BAT was reregistered VH-RMO following the Ansett takeover of Butler.
