"The Rebel" parked at Warbird Alley during EAA AirVenture Oshkosh 2024. This Mustang was built in 1944 at Dallas, TX and taken on USAAF charge as s/n 44-84993. In 1957 it was sold as surplus, changing owners many times thereafter. It competed several times in the National Championship Air Races at Reno. The aircraft has the distinction of setting time-to-climb records in the hands of decorated USN veteran Doug Matthews. It is painted in the markings of Capt Joseph H. Joiner of the 336th FS, 4th FG based at Debden. This photo is copyright © Arjun Sarup, and may not be used or published in any way without permission.
