The Vampard or, as some called it, Hurrivard is an interesting contraption. It is a Harvard Mk IIA with the USAAC serial 41-33289 and RAF EX316, but was delivered directly to the SAAF as part of the Empire Air Training Scheme and given the serial 7126. The Harvard stayed on in the post-war SAAF but came to grief near Sundays River in the Eastern Cape on 12 May 1973. It was donated to the Atlas Apprentice School at Johannesburg airport. They in turn created this contraption using parts of Vampire. Photographer unknown This photo was added on 1 December 2024, and has since been viewed 1984 times. |
