Tragically this veteran airliner, built 1942 and with 64,700 hours "on the clock", was lost and it's 34 occupants killed, when it descended into the sea on approach to Freeport- Grand Bahama International Airport on 12th September 1980. At the time the airport was reporting low ceilings, low visibility with moderate turbulence and thunderstorm activity.
