Based on XB-42 Mixmaster technology, Douglas designed this five-seat executive aircraft and also an 48-passenger airliner called the DC-8. The sole Cloudster II only flew two times in 1947, suffering from vibrations in the long propeller shaft, overheating and cost overruns. Photo assumed taken in Santa Monica where the prototype was still present ten years later. It ended up with a boy scout group.
