Built for BOAC as Comet 2 G-AMXA, Sold to the Ministry of Supply in March 1955, one of four converted to C2R standard which joined the RAF with 192 Sqn at Watton replacing their Boeing Washingtons in the ELINT role. 192 Sqn was renumbered as 51 Sqn in 1958 and moved to Wyton in 1963 from where the aircraft flew until its retirement in 1974. Flown to Strathallan in August 1974 for preservation but was broken up in 1990 after the the collection was dispersed. The cockpit survives as is on display at the Al Mahatta museum in Sharjah at time of upload. This photo was added on 23 April 2025, and has since been viewed 86 times. |
