This C-130 served with VXE-6 based at Point Mugu, CA and was part of the support needed to maintain and resupply Operation Deep Freeze bases in the Antarctic. During a take-off run in Dec. 74 a JATO bottle came loose and damaged the starboard wing and stranding her on the ice for the next five years until repairs could be carried out. She continued to serve until retirement to AMARG during March 99 and is stored with the PCN/Inventory No. AACF0192. This photo is copyright © Alastair T.
