Crew-training at Shannon three weeks after delivery. PH-KCA was retired in August 2014 and dismantled at Bob Sikes Airport, Crestview, Florida.

This was a cold, cold day to be standing at the end of a runway. However the intermittent rainstorms, and the fact that 06 was being used for landings, meant that some nice wet runway shots could be obtained.

Many a time as a young lad I stood on the LHR Queens Building terrace and didn't bother to photograph BEA Tridents or Lufthansa 727s as they were 'common', instead preferring to shoot Zambia 707s or National DC-10s with my precious film. When the Tridents and 727s were gone and I realised that I didn't have enough shots of them. I don't want to make that mistake again and whilst I have many shots already of KLM MD-11s I do not have enough and soon they'll be gone too.

Withdrawn from use in September 2014, by which time it must have been one of the last remaining MD-11s in pax service.
