Designed by John Thorpe and Rudy Paulic in 1933 and built at the Boeing School of Aeronautics to test and teach advanced concepts, the T-3 first flew in 1939. Development stopped during World War 2 as Boeing concentrated on military projects. Rudy Paulic replaced the 125 hp Warner radial engine with a 180 hp Lycoming with a controllable pitch propeller and made the landing gear retractable in 1959.

The Sabreliner business jet was North American's only civil aircraft, but it was designed also to meet a USAF requirement for a light jet trransport and continuation trainer.

Lt Cohen's tanker Intruder is nicely preserved in the museum at OAK.

The devil's air force - 160666 and Skywarrior 147666 at the Oakland Aviation Museum, formerly the Western Aerospace Museum. This Tomcat flew in these spectacular markings with VF-111 'Sundowners' in the early 1980s, and later became an NF-14A test aircraft with the Pacific Missile Test Center at NAS Point Mugu.

First flown in July 1961, the Hiller 1099 was unsuccesful. It seated six people and was powered by a PT6 turboshaft.

This aircraft never flew with NASA, but is one of eight TAV-8A Harriers originally delivered to the US Marine Corps where it was 159381. After a crash at MCAS Cherry Point 1983-04-28 it was rebuilt for the museum and painted in a NASA colour scheme.

Ordered as a Sunderland Mk IV for the RAF, completed as a Seaford and then converted to a Solent for BOAC, this British flying boat ended up in the United States in 1954. It appears in the Indiana Jones movie Raiders of the Lost Ark, but is incomplete.

As a tanker, the Skywarrior soldiered on until 1991.
