As a schoolboy living near the old Heston Airfield, we would often see Aer Lingus DC-3's and Viscounts banking tightly on a visual approach to Heathrow's runway 28R, to save a few minutes on the flight from Dublin.

This aircraft crashed on March 24, 1968 on a flight from Cork to London/Heathrow.

First with KLM from 23.11.57 as PH-VIH then to Aer Lingus ('St Fergal') on 8.7.66; leased to BAF from 31.3.70 to 27.9.71 and broken up at Dublin 1972. Interestingly, was to have been sold to Air Vietnam by Aer Lingus

Served KLM between July 1957 and sale to Aer Lingus as EI-AOJ in December 1966. Here it wears the early "Flying Dutchman" scheme with tricolour rudder stripes.

"Leonardo da Vinci" was delivered to KLM in October 1957 and served them until sale to Aer Lingus in September 1965 as EI-AOE. A Euravia Constellation and British Eagle Viscount are at the pier's end.
