Photographed with Heathrows 1955 vintage Tower visible, this was a stretched CL-44, 4.6 metres longer than the D model and originally built for Loftleidirs low-cost transatlantic scheduled passenger flights in the 1960s.

Having earlier been operated by Aer Turas under the same registration, EI-BRP was wfu at Southend in mid-1990 and used for spares for Guppy EI-BND. Broken up 4.92

The last CL-44, built as a D4-8 and FF as CF-SEE-X in 3.65, but by 11.65 converted to stretched 'J' model. To Loftleider as TF-LLI, wheels up landing at JFK in 9.69 but not repaired due to insurance dispute till sold to Cargolux and repaired at LAX in 1971. To Aero Uruguay as CX-BJV 12.77 and Cargosur 11.78. Lsd to AECA of Ecuador when seen here. Became HK-3148X in 10.84 with Aeronorte, then SAEP, Tampa and LASA; w/o during emergency return to Barranquilla on 6.47.88 after no.4 engine failure on climbout

Previously TF-LLH with Loftleidir and Cargolux, this stretched CL-44 joined Aer Turas in 5.79 and was scrapped at Dublin in 6.86

Originally Loftleidir Icelandic's first CL-44, TF-LLF, delivered in 5.64, converted to stretched 'J' standard in early 1966. Sold to Cargolux in 2.72 and then Cargosur as N4993U in 9.78. Registered 5A-CVB then TL-AAI in 1979; to UAA as 5A-DGJ 1.80 (remamed Jamahiriya AT 2 years later). From 2.83 9Q-CQS with VIC Air Cargo and lastly EI-BRP with Aer Turas and Heavylift, broken up at SEN late 1992

A trip in an Auster afforded this unusual view. First reg to Canadair 4.63 as CL-44D-8 CF-PBG-X, to Loftleidir TF-LLF and converted to the stretched CL-44J 1966. To Cargolux 4 months before this shot and then sold as N4993U in 1976, later becoming TL-AAL, 5A-CVB, 5A-DGJ, 9Q-CQS and lastly EI-BRP with Aer Turas 1.86. Bought by Heavylift 5.89, wfu SEN 11.90 and b/u 8.92

Only 39 CL-44s have been built, and this aircraft was the last one. It first flew in March 1965, and was delivered to Loftleidir of Iceland a year later, as TF-LLI. Unfortunately it came to a premature end when it crashed on approach to Barranquilla, Colombia on 6 July 1988.
