The leased Vanguards returned to Air Holdings; a forth example of the type, acquired for spares only, remained derelict at Air Traders homebase at Stockholm-Bromma. - SE-FTI was later used by EAS and Merpati; it was noted at Jakarta in 1985, wfu as PK-MVA, and was subsquently scrapped.

Original delivered to Northeast Airlines in February, 1949, this 240 flew nearly 50 years with various operators before crashing into the sea after departing San Juan, PR on September 24, 1998. It is seen here in June, 1972 at Seattle Tacoma International Airport. (From my collection and photographed by my long time friend, Nicky Scherrer)

Just arrived from Germany for the Historic Aircraft Museum at Southend Airport, where this Storch was later painted in Luftwaffe North Africa colours. Said to be ex Swedish AF 3802 and OK-ADR, having been built in Prague in 1943. After it was sold off when the museum closed in 1983, it found its way to the Fantasy of Flight collection in Florida.

slide by Peter C. Mills. - Jet Commander c/n 048 was built in 1966 and was registered as N541SM from 1970 until 1975. The bizjet crashed as N301AJ on approach to Cozumel, Mexico in August 1990.

Built 1968, delivered new to SAS June 16th 1968 as their first DC-9-63 LN-MOU named "Leif Viking". March 21st 1974 HS-TGX for Thai. 1984 OY-SBK for Sterling Airways, 1986 transferred to Scanair. 1989 N794AL Trans Ocean Airways. Written off February 15th 1992 at Toledo, Ohio, in bad weather while operating for Burlington Air Express. This 880 was later registered N42, and after FAA it was N84790 with Flight Systems, and then modified to UC-880 BuNo 161572 for the United States Navy.

slide taken by Norbert Kröpfl. - Lufthansa's D-ABOC stayed on the German register between 1960 and 1977, and was leased to Condor for some seasons in the 70ies. After that, it was only operated for two more years - it was withdrawn at Tripolis in 1979 as 5A-CVA and was finally scrapped there in 1988.

Delivered to British European Airways (BEA) in 1961 as a Vickers 953 Vanguard in passenger configuration. Intended to be named "Arethusa" after a Royal Navy warship, in line with the rest of the class, but the name was never carried due to a change in BEA's corporate colour scheme at the time of introduction to service. Converted to 953C Merchantman freighter standard in 1971. Sold to Air Bridge in 1979. Withdrawn from use in 1983. Used for Fire Training at East Midlands Airport till 1996.
