Delivered to the US Navy in '72, stored at St. Augustine (FL) from May'95, dumped in Atlantic Ocean as artificial reef near Ponce de Leon Inlet (FL) in Jun'96. Attack Squadron (VA) 34 "Blue Blasters" was established as Fighting Squadron (VF) 20 (as "Jokers") on 15 Oct'43 and was redesignated through the years into VF-9A, VF-91 and VF-34 before it became VA-34 on 1 Jul'55. In '57 it was renamed into "Blue Blasters", from their blue tail colors and their nuclear weapon delivery capability. VA-34 was disestablished on 29 May'69 and re-established on 1 Jan'70, and became VFA-34 on 30 Sep'96.

Reserve Fleet Composite Squadron (VC) 12 "Fighting Omars" used this dark, 1963 built, A-4E Skyhawk. VC-12 used the JY tailcode, but this was not carried here. On 16 Jul'93, the squadron flew their last mission with the A-4 and transitioned a year later to the F/A-18A/B Hornet. VC-12 provided adversary training to East Coast Navy air wings. This A-4E was already retired to AMARC from Jan'78 to Jul'80 with inventory code 3A523, but returned to operational service. After VC-12 got rid of their A-4s, it was moved to the National Museum of Naval Aviation at Penscacola.

A nice A-4F being towed away. This Skyhawk was once a Blue Angels star (see picture 155419 at AirHistory from August 1986). It was first delivered to the US Navy in 1967 and was stored at AMARC with inventory code 3A765 on 7 April 1994. It remained their up to 5 January 2005, after which it was scrapped by Fritz Enterprises at Taylor (MI). Adversary squadron Fighting 43 "Challengers" normally carried the "AD" tailcode, but this Skyhawk lacked that code. VF-43 was disestablished on 1 July 1994.

Delivered to the US Navy in 1979 and dumped at the Mountain Home (ID) range after it stranded with technical problems at Mountain Home AFB in early 1995. VA-35 was disestablished on 31 January 1995 and it appeared to be too expensive to repair the Intruder and fly it back to homebase NAS Oceana (VA) for such a short period. The Intruder was last seen in april 1995 at a range. Most probably it was completely destroyed by (air to ground) weapons, just south of Mountain Home is a fake-airfield, Saylor Creek Range, possibly it resided there.

Only delivered in 1985, 162179 belonged to the latest badges of Intruders delivered to the US Navy. There are even many older BuNo's (and older than FY84/FY85 USAF fighters) still flying operational in the USA. Pity these Intruders were retired that soon. 162179 was retired to AMARC for storage (inventory code 5A0252) in March 1997, stricken on 14 June 2002 and scrapped by HVF West, Tucson (AZ) soon after on 5 May 2016. On this picture it is seen with Attack Squadron (VA) 42 "Green Pawns". The A-6 Intruder Fleet Replacement Squadron was disestablished on 30 September 1994.

AB-110 took part in the NAS Oceana airshow and was towed away to a parking spot for the next day flying. The aircraft was that much toned-down, that its BuNo was not identified, not even from this close. But thanks to carrierairwings.com the BuNo of this Tomcat became known. 159019 was last reported as stored at Norfolk in early 1992. It was then struck of charge at that same location in April 1994.

Parked on the flightline next to a Fighting Squadron (VF) 33 "Starfighters" Tomcat, this "Black Aces" Cat was delivered to the US Navy in early 1977 and sadly crashed after an engine fire in in Pamlico Sound (SC) on 26 August 1994. Both pilots ejected safely, but the Tomcat was completely destroyed.
