This B-29 was used by the USAF to collect radioactive samples during postwar atomic tests

Many years ago while "Enola Gay" was still dismantled and in store at the Silver Hill facility, I once had the eerie experience of being able to go on board and sit in the bombadier's seat. Of course this is the Superfortress which dropped the world's first atomic bomb used in warfare on Hiroshima on 6.8.45

Wichita-built B-29 ex China Lake exhibited at the South Dakota Air & Space Museum at Ellsworth AFB with 15th AF shield on its lower fin.

Operational with the US Air Force between March 1945 and March 1956, Doc was placed at the China Lake Weapons Range as a target from 1956. Moved in 1998 to the United States Aviation Museum, Inyokern, CA that was established by Mr. Tony Mazzolini to save the B-29, Boeing stepped in to help with restoration in 2000. The bomber was moved to Wichita, KS where it has been rebuilt to like new condition.

Look at the firepower in the front dorsal turret of the B-29 - this Superfortress allegedly shot down two Japanese aircraft and saw combat in the Korean War as well as WWII. She later served as a WB-29 weather aircraft.
