Once an A-6A and delivered to the US Navy in 1967, later upgraded to A-6E, served operational fleet squadrons and became a Boeing guided weapons test aircraft between November 1990 and February 1991 before it was transferred to the NAWC-WD. The Intruder served the Weapons Department up to November 1993. It was then stored at China Lake until at least late 1998. It was stricken from Naval inventory on 14 November 2001 and then preserved with the US Naval Museum of Armament and Technology at the base.
