17-8440 was the last F-4EJ that left the Mitsubishi Heavy Industries production line. Mitsubishi had been building 127 F-4EJs under license. She was delivered to the JASDF on May 20, 1981. As the production line at the McDonnell Douglas factory in St.Louis had already been closed, 17-8440 was also the last (#5195) F-4 Phantom II built. She received the upgrade to the F-4EJ Kai version, and is still operational with 301 Hikotai, currently based at Hyakuri AB.
