Of the eleven Ju 52s which famously landed on frozen Hartvig Lake near Narvik in Norway on 13 April 1940, this was the only one that could take off from the melting ice. Although bound for Oslo it strayed into Sweden and landed in a field near the village of Vallsta in Hälsingland. Its three crew were interned and the German crosses were overpainted with Swedish roundels, as can be seen in this photo. The aircraft was registered to the German embassy in Stockholm as SE-AKR on 27 August 1940 and flown back to Germany on 2 September 1940 by the courteous Swedes.
