This Phantom is part of the 82nd Aerial Targets Squadron based at Tyndall Air Force Base. One of the tasks of this squadron is flying QF-4s in support of the USAF Heritage Flight program at air shows or commemorative events. 72-1490 did just that when participating at the NAS Oceana Air Show of 2005. It flew with the 82nd ATRS until July 2014 when it was destroyed somewhere over White Sands Missile Range.

On June 27th, 1991 she arrived at AMARG from the US AFRES 924th TFG / 704th TFS, based at Bergstrom AFB, TX In 2003 she left AMARG and got converted to FSAT at BAe Systems at Mojave, CA (AF252) After a short period with the 53rd WEG she returned to AMARG in September 2008. She left AMARG again to rejoin the 82nd ATRS / Det 1 in February 2009 She was part of the USAF Heritage Flight. eventually, she was destroyed over the WSMR on July 18th, 2014
