The sole Heinkel HE 6 (E for Eindecker) seaplane, D-1220, was built in 1927 for an aborted east-west Atlantic crossing. The HE 10 derivative was apparently designed as a navigation trainer for the DVS (German Airline Pilot School, a covert military school). Two examples were built, D-1662 and D-1731, and the latter is seen having run into a dike near Amsterdam's Schellingwoude seaplane station after a flight from Warnemünde.
