The DC-3 was built in 1938. In that same year, Bachmann, Blumenthal & Co Flugzeugbau (BBF) began manufacture of aircraft parts at this airfield, taking over a Gotha plant. Nuremberg's commercial airport was then Marienberg, which took over from the old Fürth / Nuremberg - Atzenhof airport in 1933.
