The AB.102 was based on the piston-powered Bell 48 that Agusta incorporated into an all-new, streamlined fuselage. However, the advent of turbine-powered helicopters in the 1960s soon rendered the AB.102 obsolete and this first prototype is now on display at Volandia.

The prototype of the AB.102, first flown in 1959 and based on the old Bell 48. Eight passengers could be carried. Driven by one R-1340 Wasp piston engine, the type was overtaken by turbine-powered helicopters and only a few examples were built.
