Special tail markings for the 40th anniversary of 322 Squadron, which was formed at RAF Woodvale on 12 June 1943. The aircraft was written off at Leeuwarden AB, sadly with the loss of its pilot Captain J.C. de Vries, after ingesting a heron during its take-off roll.

Fatal crash. On take-off, J-252 ingested a large bird, decided to terminate take-off, missed the arrestor cable and ended up in a ditch outside the airfield obliterating the front part. Capt J.C. de Vries was killed in this mishap. The special tail to commemorate 40 yrs of 322 sqn was already painted over, but parts of it became visible after the crash

Seen just after the celebration of the 40th anniversary of 322 Sq. As the mascot of 322 Sq is a red tail grey parrot the grey F-16 received a red tail. For the first time with approval of "The Hague". Destroyed in a fatal accident on 4th October, 1983
