This Bird Dog, although carrying USAF markings, never saw service with the USAF. Although the aircraft was taken up by the USAF on 22 January 1951, it was immediately (the next day) delivered to the US Army at Fort Mason in San Francisco and subsequently shipped to Japan, to be used by the Japanese Army (JGSDF), first as H-1002, later as 11002. It remained active in Japan until the 1980s before it was shipped back to the USA and entered the private market (in 1989).
