SFO Helicopter Airlines started flying on 1 June 1961 between SFO and OAK airports, San Francisco Downtown Heliport at the Ferry Building, and Oakland Downtown Heliport on 10th Street near Lake Merritt. Maintenance work goes forward on Sikorsky S-62 turbocopter in foreground, which makes short-haul flights for the San Francisco & Oakland Helicopter Airlines. In the background is one of the long-haul DC-8 jets flown by Pan American. The helicopter airline leases a portion of the hangar from Pan American.'
