After Albert Park/Hendon aerodrome closed in favour of Parafield, Adelaide aviators called for an aerodrome closer to the city. One suggested site was North West Parklands 2km from the city centre. The Royal Aero Club of South Australia landed VH-UIB there to demonstrate its feasibility. A site at West Beach, 6km from the city, was chosen instead. It became the city's gateway airport and GA, and the aero club, remained at Parafield. The club closed in 1981. Photo from: State Library of South Australia
