"Flagship Great Britain" was AOA's first Stratocruiser. AOA was formed out of American Export Airlines, a shipping firm's subsidiary, which began operations from New York to Foynes, Ireland, on 20 June 1942, using Sikorsky VS-44 flying boats. Switched to landplanes in 1945. Became a subsidiary of American Airlines in 1945 and became American Overseas Airlines. Sold to Pan Am in Srptember 1950 and operations were merged. The first Stratocruiser for AOA, N90941 was delivered to the airline on 13 June 1949. AOA merged into Pan Am on 25 September 1950. This aircraft was damaged beyond repair in a belly landing at Tokyo on 9 July 1959. This publicity photo of pax boarding into the lower deck was obtained from AOA over 60 years ago.

"Flagship Great Britain" was delivered to AOA on 29 March 1946. It is being prepared for a transatlantic schedule at La Guardia. Sold to Pan American on 25 September 1950. From Lockheed 60 years ago.
