The PiperJet was first flown in 2008 and was intended as a competitor to the twin-engined Eclipse 500 and Cessna Citation Mustang VLJs. But is it any wonder it was not a success and only this prototype was built?

The one (and only!) PiperJet ever built. The PA-47 was Piper's intended entry into the Very Light Jet (VLJ) market, but the project ever really took off. After a change of ownership, the project was renamed PiperJet Altaire. Although the aircraft was technically a succes, the project was cancelled ion October 2011 due to an economic downturn. The aircraft was put on display at the Florida Air Museum (at Lakeland airport) in 2012.

The prototype PA-47 PiperJet exhibited at the 2009 Sun n' Fun Show. It was powered by a single Williams FJ44 turbofan and had first flown on 30th July 2008. After further development work the project was cancelled in 10.11 and the aircraft was later donated to the Florida Air Museum.
