T9040 was involved in a 74-hour tow after it was forced down in the Atlantic on February 9, 1942 while on convoy escort duties. The corvette HMS Auricular towed it back to Cline Bay, Freetown. T9040 was lost when in caught fire at Alness, Scotland, on July 2, 1942 where it was being used for training. HMS Auricular had already been sunk, on May 5, when it stuck a mine. There was no loss of life in either incident. Photo from: Imperial War Museums
