The Royal Ceylon Air Force, the predecessor of the current Sri Lanka Air Force (SLAF), operated two Westland-built versions of the Sikorsky S-51, between 1956 and 1972. This immaculately restored example with serial CH-501 is on display in the excellent SLAF museum in Ratmalana and was first reported here in March 1993.

In May 1950 helicopter flights were organized between London and the British Industries Fair (BIF) in Birmingham. A British Pathé newsreel shows G-ALIK with the same sign and reveals the London terminal to be Harrods Sports Ground. Westland's WS-51 demonstrator making the second visit of a helicopter to Ringway. It gave demonstration flights with local dignitaries. Later rebuilt as a Widgeon and re-registered G-APPS.
