First flew in July 1942. Fitted with large wheeled Edo floats for operations in Pacific areas which were devoid of airstrips. The heavy gear reduced payload and strong cross winds caused control difficulties. After testing in the USA this aircraft crashed in Jamaica Bay NY on 13 November 1943. It is believed there were five other conversions made in the Pacific war zone. From Douglas 60 years ago.
