Rollout of the second 707 airframe, soon renamed Clipper Maria. The first 707 airframe was N708PA, also for Pan Am but test-flown in Boeing colours. Compared to the 367-80 prototype and the C-135 Stratotanker (Model 717), the 707 had fuselage width expensively increased by just 10 cm (4 in). Photo from: Boeing

A poor quality photo, but still worth uploading since it shows the first production 707 in service. Initially rolled out on 28 October 1957 in Boeing house livery (as here) then repainted before delivery in late 1958. The aircraft was destroyed on 17 September 1965 when it flew into a mountain on Montserrat while in descent for Antigua.

Built in 1958 and at this date it still had the short tail and lacked a ventral fin. To Turkish Airlines as TC-JBB in 1974 then went on to the Panama register (convenience of choice back then) from 1977 through to 1984, when it was scrapped at Taipei (RCTP) as N4594A.

N708PA was the first true 707, having a slightly wider fuselage than the Boeing 367-80 prototype and the KC-135 (Model 717) Stratotankers in the background. Rolled out on 28 October 1957, first flown on 20 December and delivered to Pan Am on 30 November 1958. Photo from: Boeing
