Not a TV-2 Seastar, but a TV-1 Shooting Star. In 1948 the US Navy received a batch of F-80Cs to speed up conversion to jet fighters. They were allocated naval serials of a cancelled batch of Martin Maulers. This one is from the Naval Air Reserve unit at NAS St. Louis (Lambert), but it seems that it stayed at NAS Oakland (OAK) after its arrival here. Procured by USAF as F-80C 47-221 but delivered to US Navy as TV-1 33824. Preserved at Willow Grove NAS wearing the 7W code of a Naval Reserve unit based there.

This aircraft is actually former US Navy Lockheed TV-1 BuNo 33850. Not sure why its marked 56467 since 45-6467 was a Ford built CG-4A glider.

This Shooting Star was built at Burbank as a P-80C-1-LO and delivered to the USAF as 47-1397 but subsequently transferred to the Navy with BuNo 33850 as a TO-1 (redesignated TV-1 in 1950). Now preserved as a gate guard at Merced but in these ficticious USAF markings.

The P-80 was developed in an astounding 143 days and was the first jet fighter to be used by the USAF. However the lack of a swept wing meant it was rapidly switched to ground attack and air-to-air missions. TO-1 was the initial Navy designation for the P-80C, of which 16 were delivered to the Marines. In 1950 it was redesignated to TV-1. This example has completed her restoration and is now on display at the Carolinas Aviation Museum.

Procured by USAF as 48-0377. Transferred to USN/Marines in 1948 as 33866. Redesignated TV-1 in 1950. Seen under overhaul at the Planes of Fame Museum at its early Ontario location. Now preserved at Charlotte.
