Considered to be the finest fighter of World War I, the D.VII arrived at the front in April 1918, a few days after Manfred von Richthofen was killed. By the end of the war, 775 were in service with the Luftstreitkräfte. As per terms of the Armistice, the type was specifically mentioned; all D.VIIs were required to be surrendered to the Allies. This reproduction with its winged sword emblem represents the aircraft of 44-victory ace Hptm. Rudolf Berthold awarded the Pour le Mérite, who continued to fly despite being severely wounded several times and ended the war in command of JG 2.
