Delivered to the USAAF as B-17G 44-85828. To the US Navy as PB-1G as 1946. Converted to a camera and survey aircraft for US Coast Guard in 1947. Sold as N9323R in 1960. Modified to a sprayer in 1962 then to a firebomber in 1964. To the museum in 1980. Painted in fake markings 231892 by 1984. Moved inside the 390BW Memorial Museum hangar when it was completed in 1987.

Painted to represent Flying Fortress of the 390th Bomb Group at Framlingham, Suffolk, England in 1943, this is really a B-17G-110-VE 44-85828 built by Lockheed-Vega at Burbank. In August 1945 it was transferred to the US Coast Guard at Elizabeth City, NJ as a PB-1G, serialled 77254. It flew its last mission in October 1959 and was sold in 1960 as N9323R, being converted to a sprayer in 1962. Further modifications came in the late 1960s when it became a firefighting tanker, ending up with Aero Specialities at Mesa, AZ. Transported to the Pima museum by road in December 1980.

To several owners as N9323R after March 1960. Converted for aerial spraying (July 1962) and airtanker (1963-1980). Transferred to the Pima Air Museum in December 1980 for display, initially in authentic markings as 44-85828. In early 1986 it was painted in these fake markings as 231892 / DI-H.

Later to the Pima Air and Space Museum displayed as 42-31892. It had actually been 44-85828 is USAAF service.
