Photographer: Al Rodriguez. K25 slide scan. Built 1966 as N368US for Northwest. BWIA 9Y-TED 1974. FTC N29796 1982. Operated as Interam, later lettered for Aeronaves de Puerto Rico. South Pacific N144SP 1983, Burlington Air Express 1986. Undershot and crashed on approach to Kansas City 13 April 1987.

Parked at Marana-Pinal Air Park having been reposessed. Looks like it is having hushkits installed. Delivered to Northwest Orient as N368US in 1968 then to BWIA as 9Y-TED in 1974. Sold as N29796 in 1982 and used by a number of operators. To South Pacific Island Airways as N144SP in 1983 then to Burlington Air Express in 1986. Crashed on approach to Kansas City in 1987.

In the early 70s, International carriers were replacing 707s with wide bodies like the 747. Second tier carriers became homes for many, BWIA eventually operating thirteen of them. Scarlet Ibis was in their fleet March 1974 - February 1982. Leases as N29796 and N144SP followed until April 13, 1987 when the Burlington Air Express freighter crashed short of the runway at Kansas City International Airport, MO.
